Cybersecurity and auditability of embedded systems - the case of an EV charger
The rapid adoption of complex connected embedded systems, such as electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, telematics units, or battery controllers, has increased the need for a robust approach to cybersecurity and auditability.
This talk delves into the application of cybersecurity methodologies to embedded Linux systems, using the design of an EV charging station as a representative example. It will explain how the security of an EV charger can be enhanced both on the runtime side—using a microservice architecture for software component isolation and fine-grained permission control, alongside a memory-safe language—and on the supply chain side, by ensuring all software components are described with associated vulnerabilities and that the build platform itself is secure.
